The Real Super Bowl MVP

The Real Super Bowl MVP

Von Miller of the Denver Broncos was named Super Bowl 2016 Most Valuable Player (MVP). While he was my choice, I’m not sure he was the real MVP.

  • It wasn’t the NFL who put on a grand show all over the San Francisco Bay Area
  • It wasn’t the commuters who struggled to get around all the venues for up to 3 weeks
  • It wasn’t the TV analysts and commentators who speak endlessly
  • It wasn’t the thousands of security personnel who kept us safe-thank you!
  • It wasn’t Lady Gaga who sung a magnificent Star Spangled Banner
  • It wasn’t Coldplay, Beyonce and/or Bruno Mars who collaborated on a terrific, inspiring half-time show

So who was the real Super Bowl MVP?

Wade Phillips, the 68-year old Defensive Coordinator of the Denver Broncos, put together a game plan that stymied and frustrated Cam Newton and the Carolina Panther’s offense rendering it ineffective. He did the same thing 2 weeks earlier to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Had it not been for his leadership, there is little doubt the Carolina Panthers would have dominated and won the game.

Last season, Wade Phillips was unemployed. No team picked up his services. What a difference a year makes. My hat is off to Wade Phillips, the real Super Bowl MVP.

Thought for the week:
